Enlighten teeth whitening

May 25th, 2010

Enlighten is the most recent whitening system we have at Mawsley dental clinic and from the dentists point of view, it is the best we have yet to come across. It is a combination treatment meaning that there is a 2 week home treatment followed by a 1 hour visit to your dentist.

How do i get started?

You can book an appointment with your dentist for a consultation and they will go through the procedure with you. When you decide to go ahead with the treatment, the dentist will have to take upper and lower impressions of your teeth. This is sent to a specialised enlighten laboratory for the whitening trays to be made. This takes 2weeks or you have a fast track option where for an additional cost, you could have the trays back within 3days.

Once the trays are back you will have another appointment with the dentist for them to talk you through the treatment and take a starting shade of your teeth. They will give you the trays and whitening kit which includes the whitening gel and desensitising swabs.

What do i have to do at home?

You will have to wear the trays with the gel in them for 14 nights. On the 15th day you will have an appointment with your dentist for the second part of the treatment which takes place in the surgery and only takes 40mins.

How long does it last?

We advise that you top up your whitening by wearing the trays for 1 night every month. This will ensure your teeth are kept at the optimum result.

Are there any side effects?

You may experience some sensitivity, however you will have received some desensitising swabs in your take home kit, which will work immediately.

Is it safe?

Completely, the materials used in enlighten whitening have been used in dentistry for over 100 years.

AIRFLOW! Tooth stain removal

May 6th, 2010

Before airflow         After airflow

See full size image

Staining of the teeth can occur from tea, coffee, red wine and certain foods that we eat. Airflow is a simple, painless solution to rid you of the stains and make your mouth feel fresh and clean.

How it works.

It is a mixture of air and modified sodium bicarbonate combined with a water jet which produces a spray at high speed. This removes the stains easily and quickly.

You would be surprised at what a difference airflow can make. It may be all you need to make you feel happier about the appearance of your teeth.

Ask reception or your dentist about airflow.

Restylane

March 23rd, 2010

As well as cosmetic dental treatment, Mawsley dental clinic now offer Restylane. Restylane products smooth away wrinkles, enhance facial contours, create fuller lips, and revitalise skin.

Whether you would like to smooth out the signs of ageing, create fuller lips, rediscover your cheekbones or jaw line to improve the profile of your face, there is a perfect restylane treatment for you. And restylane is not just for your face – it can also be used to rejuvenate your neck, decolletage and back of your hands, helping you to refresh your whole appearance.

What is restylane?

Restylane is a crystal clear gel that is injected into the skin (or for some treatments just under )  in small amounts to restore volume and structure. It is based on hyaluronic acid, similar to the body’s own hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is non-animal which means that no skin tests are needed and that there is a minimal risk of allergic reactions.

How long does it last?

The results of a treatment with Restylane are long-lasting, without being permanent, giving you the freedom of choice to maintain the effect. A treatment with Restylane will generally last 6-12 months, and with only one re-treatment the effect has in a recent clinical study been shown to last up to 18 months.  To maintain the results in the lips, a re-treatment is usually needed within 6 months.

ZOOM! Laser Teeth Whitening

March 23rd, 2010

At Mawsley dental clinic we offer the Zoom! professional whitening system. You may have seen this on a extreme makeover show on TV. Zoom! chairside whitening is ideal for anyone looking for instant results, its perfect for those with a busy lifestyle.

How do i get started?

You will have an initial consultation with your dentist to discuss the treatment. The dentist will then determine whether you are a viable candidate for the procedure through a exam of the teeth and shade assessment. They will then ask you to book in for the treatment, a long appointment of around 1hr 30mins is required for the whole procedure.

What should i expect?

The procedure begins with a preparation to cover your lips and gums, leaving your teeth exposed. The dentist will then apply the whitening gel onto the teeth and set the Zoom! lamp over the teeth. The timer will then be set and 1 cycle lasts 15minutes. This is then repeated 2-3 more times depending on the dentists opinion and your comfort.

How long will it last?

By following the simple post whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. To keep your teeth looking their best, good oral hygiene and whitening top ups are recommended. The top up gel is avaliable through your dentist.

What are the side effects?

Sensitivity during and after the treatment may occur with some patients. On occasion, minor tingling sensations are experienced immediately after the procedure, but always dissipate. The dentist will recommend post treatment sensitivity relief products.

If you are interested in this treatment, do not hesitate to ask the Mawsley team for more details and a consultation appointment.
