Six month smiles is a revolutionary orthodontic system that provides a fast and economical way for adults to begin smiling with confidence. Regardless of age or gender, EVERYONE should be able to smile with confidence!

How can the Six Month Smiles system straighten teeth in only six months?

Six month Smiles braces and wires are barely noticeable – they blend very well with the colour of your teeth. These definitely aren’t metal braces.

The system employs new and specific orthodontic technology that provides for safe, comfortable and efficent tooth movement. Additionally, the aim of six month smiles is to correct the items that you are unhappy with and not make time consuming changes to the way your back teeth bite together.

Six month smiles involves light forces to gently move your teeth to their new position. The process is comfortable. The short treatment times are not achieved by using high forces on the teeth.

Will i have to wear a retainer?

With all orthodontic treatment, a retainer is necessary to maintain the straighter position of your teeth. If you don’t want to wear a removable retainer, you can have a bonded retainer placed behind your teeth. There are a variety of options that you can choose from according to your personal preference and situation.

Does it really finish in 6months?

Six months is the average treatment time. Most patients finish right around 6 months, but treatment times range from 4-9 months.

Bye Bye Bogna!

November 16th, 2011

We are sad to announce that Dr Bogna Rewinkowska has decided to leave the Clinic. Six months ago Bogna decided to reduce her working hours with us to just one afternoon and start working part time in another practice. This has resulted in a very big work load which Bogna is feeling the strain of.

She has now made the decision to stop working here all together.

We wish her all the best for the future.

Tooth Sensitivity

February 16th, 2011

Our dentists have noticed more and more patients are complaining of sensitive teeth when attending their routine examination. There are many factors which contribute towards sensitivity. These could include:

. Improper tooth brushing technique. The gums may recede through overbrushing with the wrong toothbrush technique. We would recommend a soft to medium toothbrush with a small head, brushing in small circular motions. Do not be tempted to brush when using an electric toothbrush, they are designed to do the work for you.

. Acidic foods/drinks. Over consumption can cause acid erosion which will make the teeth sensitive. Such foods and drinks are advised at meal times. We also advise to reduce snacking throughout the day as this would prevent the frequency of an acid attack.

. Age causing the gums to naturally recede

There are desensitizing products avaliable to purchase such as toothpastes and mouthwashes. Your dentist will be able to advise you on the most suitable product for your individual needs.

. Why it is important to visit the dentist

. Answer any of the childrens questions about their teeth.

Hopefully your children will see Amy in their school soon!

New payment policy

October 20th, 2010

Due to large amounts of outstanding accounts owed to the practice, we have had to review our payment policy.

From 11th October 2010 we will require advanced payments towards the cost of your NHS or private treatment plans. Patients will be provided with a detailed estimate of the costs of each appointment.

You can pay for your dental care by Cheque, credit/debit card or cash. 0% finance is available with any treatment plan costing over £600; please ask for details at reception.

If you fail to return for you’re appointment we will complete the course of treatment and the money will be added as a credit to your account.

Many Thanks

Dental Hygienist

August 19th, 2010

A dental hygienist is specially trained in the prevention and treatment of gum (periodontal) disease, which is the main cause of adult tooth loss. They will give you advice on all aspects of oral health.

What will the hygienist do?

  • Give oral health advice and instruction.
  • Demonstrate effective tooth brushing techniques.
  • Discuss the lastest oral hygiene products.
  • Detailed explanation, treatment and prevention of periodontal disease.
  • Removal of plaque and calculus deposits.
  • Discuss secondary factors that cause periodontal disease.
  • Give diet advice.
  • Advice on fluoride and apply fluoride varnishes to help remineralise early signs of tooth caries.
  • Polish the teeth to remove stains.
  • Help make the mouth healthier by changing the gums from red and inflammed to a healthy pink, stop gums bleeding, prevent teeth from becoming mobile and drifting and help prevent bad breath.

Sometimes the presence of periodontitis reflects that a systemic illness is occuring, such as Diabetes, Mellitus, White cell disorders and Coronary heart disease. Therefore it is essential to be aware of how healthy your gums are.

How long is the appointment?

The appointments are usually 30 minutes long, but this can differ depending on the treatment required.

What is the cost?

Treatment with the hygienist is a private service and costs £45 for a 30min appointment.

Will it hurt?

A scale and polish is usually painless. If you experience any discomfort, the hygienist can use anaesthetic creams and solutions.

Can the dentist do the same treatment?

The dentists don’t have the amount of time to carry out the work of a hygienist. Therefore they recommend an appointment with the hygienist who has been specially trained in treatment and prevention of periodontitis and who has the time and equipment to give you the best treatment.

What other treatments does a hygienist offer?

Other treatments include airflow, which is an advanced stain removal service. They are also able to offer whitening treatments. For more information, ask your dentist or hygienist.

How often should i see a hygienist?

We generally recommend seeing the hygienist every 6 months, however for some people this can be too much or too little. The hygienist will advise each individual the best plan for them.
